When in Rome....

From the Amalfi Coast we took a train from Sorrento to Naples and from Naples to Rome.

We spent 2 nights in Rome at SuiteDreams hotel (which we loved btw). Our train from Naples was a delayed so we got to Rome late in the afternoon.

Once we arrived we got ready for dinner. We ate at a restaurant called Le Fric. We ordered an appetizer with 4 different types of mozzarella…it was absolutely heavenly!

The next day we woke up very early because we had a big day planned. When our company was working on the program we had just finished in Sorrento we were working very closely with a local tour company who are based out of Rome. We became very close with them over the trip and when I told them Matt and I would be in Rome for really only one full day they hooked us up with a personal guide from their company to take us around and show us all of the major sites. Her name was Monica- she was awesome and we got to see Rome at our own pace and hear great stories from her. It was like traveling with a friend for the day…a friend who got to skip all of the lines….score!

We saw A LOT in one day….

Piazza Venezia, the ‘Wedding Cake’

Capitol Hill

Roman Forum

The Colosseum

Trevi Fountain

making a wish

The Pantheon

Spanish Steps

Navona Square

The Vatican

Sistine Chapel
our guide, Monica

St. Peters Basilica

St. Peters Square

Whew! Needless to say after the day we were absolutely exhausted! We went back to our hotel took a nap then headed out for a late dinner in Navona Square followed by gelato and drinks.

Drinks at Cafe De La Pace

Fountains in Navona Square at night

We stayed out very late this night because we had a 6:00 AM flight to Santorini and were scared we would sleep through our 3:30 AM wake up call. So we stayed up all night and headed to the airport at the crack of dawn.

Our hotel told us we needed to leave an hour early to get to the airport in time as it was a 50 minute drive. We asked- even this early?!? They said yes and seeing as how we came to Rome by train we were in no place to argue how far the airport was. Well with this time of night plus the fact that we were going well over 150 Kilometers the entire way there we arrived to the airport in 17 minutes. Granted it was a very scary 17 minutes where Matt and I were scared for our life but nonetheless…..

Santorini post soon to come (my favorite stop of our vacation!)
