St. Patrick's Day in Dublin

When we realized the St. Patricks Day celebration in Dublin was over a weekend we decided we had to go! It was definitely a once in a lifetime experience and huge party.

We arrived on Friday night and headed strait to the downtown area for dinner and drinks. During the 4 day celebration they "green" all of the buildings at night.

Saturday we did some early sight seeing so we could spend the rest of the day celebrating. We used the hop on hop off bus to see the city and get around.

We took a tour of Kilmainham Gaol, a former prison now a museum.

Looking through the peep hole in one of the cells at the preserved artwork of one of the prisoners.
Next we went down Grafton St checking out the shops, stopping in the pubs and loving all the street performers.
We had dinner at The Church. An old church now a 3 story bar and restaurant. The atmosphere was great and the best part was they had Irish dancers performing the whole night.

On top of the St. Patricks Day festivities there was an Ireland vs. France rugby game on that afternoon so the bars were jam packed with locals watching the game. Ireland won and being there for the celebration was awesome! We stayed around the Temple Bar area. There was just as much of a party in the streets as there was in the pubs with live music everywhere. We stayed until we were absolutely exhaused and had to go home!

We spent all day on Sunday pub hopping, shopping and taking in the scene. We left late Sunday night and unfortunately since St Patricks Day fell on a Monday we didnt get to see the parade. Although I don't know if our bodies or livers could have handled another day!

This was definitely a bucket list item and I'm so glad we got the opportunity to go!
